Message from the Program Chairs

It is our pleasure to present to you the Proceedings of the 3rd International Conference on Collaborative Computing: Networking, Applications and Worksharing, taking place in White Plains, New York. In 2007, the CollaborateCom organization is being jointly sponsored by the IEEE Computer Society, Create-Net, and the International Communication Sciences and Technology Association (ICST). CollaborateCom serves as the principal international forum for bringing together academic and industrial researchers, practitioners, and students interested in systems, networks, and applications that support collaboration.

This year, CollaborateCom has received over hundred research paper submissions, easily doubling the number of submissions from the previous year. This is a strong indication that the conference is attracting an increasing interest from the research community. As collaboration technologies continue to evolve and become ever more critical components in next generation applications, middle-ware, and systems, we expect that CollaboreCom will continue its growing trend, and strengthen its position as the premier and principal forum for research in collaborative computing.

We have a very vibrant main program this year, which includes two keynotes, two planetary panels, two focused industrial sessions, and many parallel sessions for full and short research papers. Our first keynote speaker is Dr. Jonathan Grudin from Microsoft Research, delivering his talk “Between a Rock and a Hard Place: Perspectives on Collaboration Technology”. Our second keynote speaker is Dr. Wendy Kellog from IBM T. J. Watson Research, delivering her talk “Perspectives on Social Computing”.  Our first planetary panel is titled “Collaborative Computing: From Network Management to Enterprise Systems and Web 2.0” and is mediated by Dr. Arun Iyengar from IBM T. J. Watson Research. Our second planetary panel is titled “Collaborative Computing and Service Oriented Computing” and is mediated by Prof. Dr. Calton Pu from Georgia Institute of Technology. We have three industrial presentations, 45 minutes each, describing the research activities in the domain of collaborative computing, taking place at Microsoft Research, Avaya, and FXPAL.

We would like to thank all our colleagues who served as program committee members and external reviewers. Finally, we would like to thank all the authors who submitted papers and all the conference attendees.

Best Regards,
Co-PC Chairs
